Our History

Saucon Insurance Company (SIC) was incorporated in Pennsylvania on May 3, 1832, as the Farmers Fire Insurance Company of Upper and Lower Saucon Township and began business later that year. The company name was changed to Saucon Mutual Insurance Company on January 15, 1960 and upon its demutualization on January 1, 2018, changed name to Saucon Insurance Company.

Today SIC is a highly capitalized stock insurance company with policyholders throughout the region. Our business operates on a premise of service to our policyholders and support of our community. We are approved to write the following coverage:

  • Dwelling Property

SIC maintains both term and perpetual policies for Homeowners and Dwelling Property programs.

Board of Directors

The board is the focal point of our corporate governance system. Pursuant to state statues (and corporate charters or articles) it is elected by shareholders and is charged generally with direction of the affairs of the corporation. The board fulfills its role by delegating managerial authority to the manager, which it hires, monitors, incents (compensation), and replaces when necessary.

The board is also charged with oversight of the company’s financial reporting and legal compliance.

Steve joined Saucon Insurance and Saucon Insurance Agency in May of 2012 bringing with him 35 years of executive management experience. He is a lifelong resident of the Lehigh Valley and is actively involved in numerous civic and economic development organizations. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College with a degree in Economics. He resides in Nazareth, Pennsylvania with this wife, Janis.

Susan Bertsch is Operations Manager for Saucon Insurance. Her responsibilities encompass underwritings, claims, customers service and HR. She has more than 25 years of insurance industry experience working as an adjuster, underwriter and insurance agent and holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. She resides in Macungie, Pennsylvania with her husband and son.

Melinda Dalla Piazza is our receptionist. She is the friendly voice you hear on the phone when calling Saucon. In addition to answering the phones, Melinda plays a vital role in processing and rating policies and customer service for both the company and agency. Melinda is a licensed agent and has spent over 25 years in the insurance industry in a variety of positions. She resides in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with her husband.
